Sohail Sangi is a veteran journalist, human rights defender, and a prominent voice for progressive change in Pakistan. With roots in Tharparkar and a career spanning over four decades, he has been at the forefront of resistance journalism in Sindh, championing issues of justice, equality, and democratic rights. A former political prisoner during General Zia-ul-Haq’s regime—recognized as a Prisoner of Conscience by Amnesty International—Mr. Sangi has worked with leading media outlets including Daily Sindh News, Daily Awami Awaz, Daily Kawish, and Dawn. He has mentored generations of journalists and activists, authored several books, and continues to serve as a visiting faculty member at universities. As Chairman of AWARE, he brings deep insight, unwavering commitment, and a lifelong dedication to the empowerment of marginalized communities across Sindh.
